2009 Lincoln Park Muggings

By Sean McDonough

During the summer of 2009 several men in their early 20’s were the  targets of strong-arm robberies  in Lincoln Park. According to the Chicago Police Department five muggings are believed to be related, although no one has been identified as the culprit.

One victim identified a suspect in a physical lineup but the man was later released due to lack of evidence.

During the time of the attacks, each victim  was walking alone late at night and confronted from behind when they were asked for their wallets before being severely beaten. Two men were hospitalized.

The below map shows where each attack occurred.  Two other attacks, one  in Boystown and the other a few blocks North of the five Lincoln Park incidents are included and are also suspected to be related.  Chicago Police are conducting an ongoing investigation as to whether all incidents are related.
